Jotunheimen Fjellstue

The place

Jotunheimen Fjellstue was built in the late 1940s and was used a lot for a camp school at the beginning. In addition, there was a lot of activity every Easter, by local families who wanted to go to the mountains. In the 1970s, a new extension was added to increase capacity. Since then, the mountain lodge has been regularly restored and upgraded, and now we are facing a new upgrade in 2021.

We are surrounded by magnificent nature that gives you experiences that you can live on for a long time. No matter the weather, you can enjoy the mountains with us, with adventurous flavors, surroundings and a wonderful peace. The mountain lodge is a good starting point, both for those of you who are looking for quiet days in the mountains or those of you who want more extreme challenges.

After a long trip, whether on foot or by car, the focus on good food is important to us. Every evening we serve a 3-course menu at 8:00 PM, with a fantastic view of the mountains. This also wakes you up the next day, where you can enjoy a good breakfast before the next trip of the day.

The hosts

Ole Ragnar Repp has run Jotunheimen Fjellstue since 2004. With experience from both chain operations, several years in NHO Reiseliv, and origins from Bøverdalen, he has a passion for helping to create something valuable for visitors. Since 2004, he has run Jotunheimen Fjellstue, and together with talented employees, the goal is to give guests a good experience in the mountains.

Experiences

Summer/autumn

1 Galdhøpiggen
Norway’s highest mountain towers 2469 meters above sea level and offers a fantastic view of Jotunheimen. Reaching the top is not impossible either.
From Jotunheimen Fjellstue you can go on a day trip to Galdhøpiggen. The trip usually starts from Juvasshytta or Spiterstulen, respectively 30 and 45 minutes by car from our parking lot.

2 Dumdalsgrottene
Visit the 10,000-year-old limestone caves in Dumdalen.
Dumdalsgrottene is located approx. 7 km. from Jotunheimen Fjellstue. This is a thrilling trip, accessible to most people.

3 Loftet
Loftet is a mountain peak at 2170 meters high that is great for both skiing in the spring and hiking in the summer – when the snow is gone.

4 Klimapark 2469
At the foot of Galdhøpiggen lies a 375 square meter hand-carved ice tunnel, filled with ice sculptures and archaeological treasures.

5 Botanical area around us
You don’t have to go far to find a unique botanical diversity. Jotunheimen holds the height record for many of our mountain plants, with the ice soleia growing the highest of all.

Spring

1 Loftet
Loftet (2170) is one of the most popular mountain peaks to hike in Jotunheimen, thanks to its easy access and great descent.

2 Smørstabbtidene
You can make this hike as long or short as you like. In total, you can hike six 2000 meter peaks on the outer edge of Smørstabbrean.
