Storestølen

The place

Storestølen Fjellhotell was started in 1958 as a restaurant in the mountains, located with the road between east and west across the yard to the delight of passers-by and local visitors.
Over the years, it has developed into a mountain hotel with a good standard of rooms and food, with the view of Hallingskarvet as a big bonus. Here there are magnificent mountains, wild nature and excellent hiking terrain for those who want to go randonee in winter or on foot in summer with views that will make your stomach churn. Hiking down Aurlandsdalen or from cabin to cabin to Geiterygghytta, Finse, Haugastøl or Lungsdalshytta is popular both summer and winter.

Here you get the combination of fjord and mountains. Aurland and Flåm are a beautiful drive to the west and offer Rib safaris, fjord cruises, zip lines and the famous Flåm Railway is one of the world’s most beautiful train rides.
Many people use us to arrange retreats or gatherings and it is a great destination for weddings and parties! Food is close to our hearts at Storestølen Fjellhotell. We serve organic food in season and organic game sheep, wild mountain trout, duck breast and various types of game meat are on the menu all year round. As a small hotel with 40 beds, we are good at accommodating groups and individuals. We offer high-quality vegan food and can accommodate various allergies.

Book dinner. We are open all year round.

The hosts

Welcome to Storestølen Fjellhotell
A family-run hotel that focuses on health and well-being in pure nature – where the silence, mountains and untouched nature provide peace of mind and soul. We offer massage, treatment with Bemer-Pro and we have a jacuzzi available. Please contact the reception to book.

Anne Gørild and Tore have run Storestølen since 01.06.2016 with a desire to turn it into a retreat hotel with a focus on clean food based on local ingredients.

Here you can go hiking in the summer into Raggsteindalen, to Geiterygghytta, Iungsdalshytta or down Aurlandsdalen. The varied nature provides great nature experiences in magnificent scenery. In winter, this is a top hiking destination where several of the peaks that surround the hotel give you a feeling of hunger and views that will take your breath away! Storestølen is located only 10 minutes from Hallingskarvet Ski Center and there are prepared ski trails at Myrland and into Raggsteindalen.

Just an hour away you will find Aurland and Flåm where you can visit Stegastein, take the Flåm Railway, Rib safari or a fjord cruise.
Feel free to ask us for travel tips in summer and winter.
