Skjerdingen is located on Skjerdingfjell between Atna and Ringebu, right at the foot of Rondane.
About the place
Skjerdingen Høyfjellshotell is a traditional mountain hotel with friendly staff and very good food. The area offers great hiking trails in summer and winter, and the hotel is well suited for both families and gatherings for 30-80 people.
Skjerdingen Høyfjellshotell is idyllically located on a hilltop 850m above sea level, in the middle of Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen – approx. 40km from Ringebu and 19km from Atna.
The hotel has 40 rooms with bathrooms, good beds and otherwise simple standard. Here there is a lounge/bar with an open fireplace and fantastic views of the mountains. There are pleasant dining rooms suitable for both small and large gatherings. The hotel has a popular pool with sauna, and a large terrace with dining options. At Skjerdingen we offer you as a guest limited luxury, but peace and quiet in pleasant surroundings.
The restaurant offers very good food and homemade quality. The menu varies according to the season and the chef’s whims. The restaurant is open during holiday seasons and for events.

The hosts

Wenche Baltzersen is the general manager and also a co-owner. The shareholders assist during the high season along with hired personnel.

History

Skjerdingen was Norway’s first hotel with a bathroom in every room. In its heyday, the nightclub in the basement was filled with 200 guests from the hotel and surrounding cabins. On weekends and at Easter, there were 2 tables for dinner. Today, the hotel is owned and operated by committed enthusiasts called “Skjerdingens Venner” – former users, neighbors and regulars saved the hotel after bankruptcy in 2010 and have since fought their way through times of pandemic and high electricity prices. The location of the place means that enthusiasts continue to build up good reviews about the food and atmosphere. The hotel will build on the increased demand for a cooler climate, free from noise and pollution.
