Ruten Fjellstue (860 m above sea level) is beautifully situated at the top of Espedalen between high mountains and water, and with a great view of Jotunheimen, Skåbu and over Espedalen.

A true Norwegian mountain lodge with a rich history. Today, the 3rd generation of hosts welcomes you to the mountains.
Ruten Fjellstue is known for Berit’s good food, and uses raw materials produced in Gudbrandsdalen as much as possible. The menu includes whitefish and trout from Espedalen, lamb, beef, game, cured meats, herbs and vegetables from Gudbrandsdalen.

At Ruten Fjellstue we offer accommodation, local food, canoe/kayak/SUP board rental, outdoor hot tubs.

At Ruten Fjellstue we have been open to travelers for over 80 years, and as time has passed we have developed and adapted our product to the wishes and needs of today’s travelers.

Ruten Fjellstue has its own brewery, Espedalen Fjellbryggeri, and offers its own mountain beer from casks. Espedalen Fjellbryggeri is one of Norway’s highest and smallest breweries, and has served real mountain beer since 2004.

Ruten is, together with Dalseter, responsible for the Elgtårnet in Espedalen.

The hosts

The hosts, Berit and Arthur, are the 3rd generation of operators and owners of the mountain lodge that was established by Berit’s grandparents in 1939. The hosts offer good food, traditional premises and a pleasant atmosphere. The food at Ruten is prepared by Berit, and is based on local ingredients, inspired by previous generations and further developed with new knowledge. Arthur is a beer brewer and provides local beer from Espedalen Fjellbryggeri, which is the house’s brewery.
