The place

Rondane River Lodge is located in beautiful Sollia, 780 meters above sea level. The crystal clear Vulua River flows right by the lodge, and our closest neighbor is Rondane National Park. The location halfway between Oslo and Trondheim makes this a fantastic place to stay for a relaxing holiday or as a stopover on your journey.

Rondane River Lodge is a charming small hotel with 10 double rooms and ten log cabins. We have 4 traditional rooms and 6 newly renovated hotel rooms, all with private bathrooms. If you stay in one of the cabins you have more space, you can cook your own food and enjoy yourself in front of the fireplace in peace and quiet. Guests can use the wood-fired outdoor sauna and hot tub.

At Rondane River Lodge we have a nice and intimate restaurant. For us, homemade food is more than a sales word. For us, it is a lifestyle. Elk, lamb and of course char and mountain trout are important ingredients next to mushrooms and berries from the forest around us. We often try to put a little twist on the traditional recipe without taking away its identity.

Would you like to be served waffles? Our summer café “Vaffelgård” is open daily during the high season. We serve fresh Norwegian and Belgian waffles with various toppings.

The hosts

Benjamin (38) and Karin (38) own Rondane River Lodge since August 2019 and moved to Norway with their 2 daughters Liv (8) and Mia (5).

They previously lived in Antwerp (Belgium) where they still have their travel agency specialized in the Nordic countries. They have been exploring Scandinavia for more than 20 years. Benjamin is an outdoor enthusiast and always keen to share tips on what to do or where to go. He takes care of the garden in the summer and clears (a lot of) snow in the winter… Karin has a special interest in food and likes to experiment with new recipes in the kitchen.

Ecperiences

Summer/autumn

Hiking: we offer hiking descriptions and guided tours in and around Rondane National Park.
Canoeing: paddle the famous Atna River with beautiful views and sandy beaches along the way.
Elk and musk ox safari: increase your chance of coming face to face with the wild animals.
Cycling: rent a bike and cycle along pristine dirt roads.
Farm visits: help milk the goats and enjoy a fresh breakfast on the farm

Winter

Snowshoeing: rent snowshoes or take a guided tour to a mountain peak or cabin.
Ice fishing: try your luck and come home with fresh mountain trout.
Dog sledding: a unique interaction between humans and animals.
Mountain skiing eldorado: equipment rental and guided tours, possibly including avalanche courses.
Ice skating: skate rental and plowing of the ice rink at Setningen.
